Certificate in Contemporary Indian Society and Polity (C-CISP)

This 16-week-long certificate programme will provide learners an opportunity to investigate into the timeless significance of life-affirming spirituality of Indian culture for the present and future India. Learners will first develop a good understanding of the social-political organization in ancient India, as described by Sri Aurobindo. They will then switch their attention on the present socio-cultural reality of India and explore several key questions such as: How does the present India connect to her past, and what are and/or should be her aspirations for the future? What is Indian-ness, what is the group-soul of India, and what is India’s dharma?

While a number of contemporary texts by different authors will be used as the reading material, a distinct feature of this programme is that these questions will be closely examined in the light of Sri Aurobindo’s writings on Indian culture and society. In addition to the writings of Sri Aurobindo, the reading material also includes several articles and selections from other relevant books.
